Abstract
Obvious is a collective of researchers and artists who experiment with&nbsp\;Deep Learning techniques (Artificial Neural systems) to explore the&nbsp\;creative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Arts. In 2018\, Obvious fed&nbsp\;15000 classical portraits into a Deep Learning system and let it learn&nbsp\;to autonomously create a series of new portraits. One of&nbsp\;these paintings was auctioned and sold at&nbsp\;Christie's in New York for more than 400k USD - almost twice as much as&nbsp\;other paintings by Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol together. So\, is art exclusively limited to human creativity\, or is the AI's&nbsp\;involvement also art? Against this background\, this talk will serve as&nbsp\;an inspiration and give food for thought\, show possibilities of new&nbsp\;application ideas\, and give an overview of some of the ongoing activities&nbsp\;in this field.
