PRESENTATION of R100 CENTENARY PROJECTS

President Kevin lead a Panel reporting on the R100 Centenary Projects of Rotary Melbourne.  Each of the Panellists demonstrated how we are focusing on delivering humanitarian projects, capitalising on the Centenary and involving our members as we strive to enjoy our efforts as volunteers.

 

 

WHAT A LEGEND!

Wonderful to see the return of David Frieze last week.  President Kevin happily congratulated David with “acknowledgement of his 80 year membership of the Melbourne Cricket Club – being now the 14th most senior member – and still longing for another Demons Grand Final flag !”

 

 

 

WELCOME BERND

It was marvellous to speak with visiting Rotarian, Bernd Frischleder, from Köln-Ville, Cologne, Germany last week.  

 

 

WELCOME ISOBEL

It was lovely to welcome our Rotary Exchange student Isobel Sathler Monasterio to last week's meeting.  Isobel is from Brazil and our Rotary friend, Manoel Felipe was there to welcome and help her with our "Aussie lingo"!.  We hope to hear more from Isobel in the future.

 

 

WELCOME VISITING ROTARIANS

Last week's lunch meeting was terrific as President Kevin welcomed many visitors.  Smiles all round from: Samantha Dunne and Liz Pethica (Rotary Macedon Ranges), Pat Armstrong (Rotary Doncaster), and our charming Manoel Felipe and Exchange student, Isobel Sathler Monasterio (Brazil).

It was lovely to talk again with Elaine Saunders' guest, Ellen Kendall, from Rotary Steamboat Springs, USA.  Ellen was keen to provide insight into promoting our Rotary Safe Families initiative to Rotary International and USA Club.  Thank you Ellen.

CLUB NEWS & REMINDERS

EVENING MEETING SUCCESS

Our recent Evening Meeting was a huge success with a truly inspirational and fascinating speaker:  Viv Nguyen, Chairman, Victorian Multi Cultural Commission.  This meeting was podcast and held in an impressive professional space at the Lyceum Club.

 

 

BIONICS INSTITUTE INVITATION

We are invited to attend the Bionics Institute a biomedical research institute focusing on medical bionics.  The Institute's three core research themes are bionic hearing, bionic vision and neurobionics through deep brain stimulation. Picture shows a device designed to diagnose Parkinson's Disease.

 

 

IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN!

HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!  The 2020 AFL Footy Tipping Competition is about to get underway. Bruce Davidson wrote:  "Thank you for your support in previous years. Together with our supporter friends  outside the Club we hope to raise $3000 for the community and charitable activities of our Club."

Sue McCarthy kindly displayed her R100 socks to the Members and Guests on the 35th Floor Sofitel.  Tim Goonan helpfully held Sue's umbrella.  Thank you Sue (and Tim)!

 

 

CLIVE WEEKS R100 SOCKS IN BUSHFIRE AREAS

Thank you Clive Weeks for sending Editor some photos that need to be shared with Members.  The photo shows a rather sober looking R100 Sock as it visits some of Victoria's devastated bushfire areas.  The picture shows Clive's sock in Sarsfield which was greatly impacted.

 

 

R100 SOCKS IN YA PULINGINA COUNTRY

Graham O'Donnell took his R100 socks (don't know why he didn't wear them?) to Cradle Mountain, Tasmania. He is seen here showing his socks the sign: " ........... We welcome you to walk on country with respect ........"  Hopefully they did.
