LAST WEEK'S MEETING

One hundred and three Members, Guests and Visiting Rotarians were very interested in Philip's expansive presentation on Victoria's Post COVID Economic Resurgence through a Digital Economy.

At last week's meeting, thanks was given by Peter Dakin which was very appropriate in this time of great concern for our elderly citizens.

President Marion shared:  One of the first Catholics to join Rotary was Father Jeremiah Murphy SJ, the Rector of Newman College in the University of Melbourne. He was a delightful person, friendly, urbane, witty, and a great conversationalist.  Members vied with each other to sit at his table to enjoy his company.  He was nominated to Rotary Melbourne by Professor Osborne!

Thank you to Richard Dent and Chair Ari Talantis for their warmth and capacity for making this meeting such a succcess.  Welcome to our newest Member, Dasun Premadasa who was inducted by PP Quin Scalzo.  We look forward to hearing from Dasun in next week's Bulletin.

CLUB NEWS & REMINDERS

We have created a Rotary Melbourne Young Achiever Awards' Alumni.  So far, we have 20 Young Achiever Awardees who have joined this group.  Do you know any of the recipients listed over page?  Photo shows 2016 YAA Tom Burns with 2015/16 President Peter Rogers and former CEO, City of Melbourne's Elizabeth Proust.

Membership Team with Director Chanti Bou and Serena Low have created this terrific event "Navigating Challenges and Opportunities in Retirement".  Friday, 28 August. Guest speakers Jim Orchard and Debra Yin Foo will provide participants valuable insights into retirement opportunities including considering membership of Rotary Melbourne.

Please purchase your Raffle Tickets via link overpage!  We will not be conquered by COVID-19, and the Around the Bay Team has created a special fundraiser with three events including The Raffle, to raise the $25,000 target that Rotary Melbourne has set, to donate to the disadvantaged children in the Smith Family's "Learning for Life Program".

Melanie Eagle, CEO of Hepatitis Victoria is so appreciative of her "presentation gift" of R100 socks, she has done a "selfie" from home showing her cosy foot with her letter of thanks to Rotary Melbourne.  Rock on R100 Socks!

OTHER ROTARY NEWS

Greg Ross, Australian Chair of Rotary Health has provided an update on Australian Rotary Health since 1981 and its creation.

This terrific fundraiser is so appropriate all round by fundraising for Rotary and providing income to disadvantaged communities in Uganda who are making these colourful masks.  PP Barry Hickman, Rotary Brighton has sent us an invitation to be part of this project.

The Rotary Zone 8 Conference is going virtual in this year of pandemic.  Registration details are over page.  Alice Springs, 19 and 20 September, 2020.  Zone 8 is situated in the South Pacific and includes the following countries: Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Timor Leste, Tonga, Vanuatu.
