Our Lord Mayor Sally Capp motivated us at last week's meeting to be part of Council's plans to restart our Melbourne economy, life and soul. 2020 REMEMBRANCE DAY
Every year at 11 am on 11 November - the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month - we pause to remember those men and women who have died or suffered in all wars, conflicts and peace operations. This year marked the 75th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War. We were unable to mark this year's Remembrance Day by gathering together at the Shrine but thanks to Peter Davis and Major General Jim Barry, we were taken there at last week's meeting.
COLOUR YOUR WORLD PROJECT PROFILE
Peter Berg showcased our delightful newly created project: Colour your World which sits in the Environmental Sustainability Fifth Focus of Rotary International. Incidentally, we need to thank Peter Washusen and Nina Hunter for their great work in showcasing our projects.
DID YOU KNOW ...?
Sir Aaron Danks, (Pic.) in the 1920's, son of the founder of John Danks & Co., represented the hardware industry in Rotary Melbourne. The bathrooms of almost every home in Melbourne had fittings manufactured by Danks.
Thomas Luxton, later to be Lord Mayor of Melbourne, represented retail hardware through his family’s firm of McEwans.
Later, Past President John Edmonds, Chairman of Rogerseller, represented the industry with the classification BATHROOM FIXTURES - DISTRIBUTION.
