LAST WEEK'S MEETING

Kazuyoshi Matsunaga, Consulate-General of Japan and Rotary Melbourne Honorary Member, farewelled us at last week's meeting via video, before introducing us to Tim Stone. (see item below)

Second part of last week's meeting was a truly amazing presentation by Tim Stone, journalist and documentary filmmaker: "Through Samurai Eyes".  Tim was introduced by Kazuyoshi Matsunaga, former Consulate-General Japan, Victoria.

Our MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) Team of Manik and Samartha were announced as the winning team recently at Assembly. Neville Page, District 9800 MUNA Committee Chairperson and Christina Boys introduced the two inspirational young men at last week's meeting.

"In 1921, the Club purchased a piano and invited Mr Cyril Mee as a visitor to lead the first club singing. Alberto Zelman, the conductor of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra was appointed musical director. He invited select members to form a choir to lead the singing. Within two years, the singing had a fixed place on the luncheon agenda. “Will the choir please assemble” was greeted with more enthusiasm than accepting first-name acquaintance!"

MEET A NEW MEMBER

Last week's meeting, we met Helen Moylan, our latest member of Rotary Melbourne and daughter of past member Eric Banks. We look forward to meeting Helen when we eventually all meet on the 35th Floor!  In the meantime, we can email Helen to extend our friendship online and invite her to visit our committee meetings.

Rotary Melbourne is contributing to this Australia Day event. Gather your family and friends for a live ZOOM event being streamed across Australia from 12.30 pm to 2.00 pm AEDT, Tuesday, 26 January 2021. Our Rotary SAFE Families is being promoted too.

PP Bob Glindemann has advised that Second Bite has invited us to return now that it is safer, to help them with collection of food on a Sunday afternoon for a mere 2 hours every few weeks at the Prahran Market. Pic shows Zoe Mavros collecting.
