Welcome new member John Saunders
John Saunders was inducted as a new Member of Rotary Melbourne at our meeting on 25 August 21. John is a member of the Toorak 1 group. Welcome John.
Legacy Teddy Bear Picnic box during Legacy Week
The Legacy bears are going on a Teddy bear picnic and you’re invited! There are a few members in our Club and their families that have benefited from the community work of Legacy for service families.
Vale David Frieze
Rotary Melbourne members will be saddened to learn that David Frieze passed away on Saturday 28 August at the age of 97. He was a long-standing member of over 46 years with the Club and really enjoyed the fellowship with other members, especially during Covid. Our heartfelt thoughts are with his family on the loss of this remarkable community minded person. Funeral details will be provided to members when known. Jo also has contact details for his daughter Sally.
Vale Colin Teese
Sadly we have news that Colin Teese, husband of past member Jane Munro, has passed away after a battle with cancer. Jane a former head of International House resigned from the Club last year to move to the QLD coast to be closer to family. A memorial service will be held in Southport on the 30th August. Pres Reg has passed on our condolences.

NGV Visit 2021
Rotary Melbourne has organised a lecture and visit to the NGV 2021 Melbourne Winter Masterpieces on Friday 17th September. French Impressionism: From the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Service to Seniors Award Nominations NOW OPEN
One of the Club's Annual Awards is the Service to Seniors Award made to a person whose outstanding service for seniors in a voluntary capacity is judged to have made a positive difference to the lives of seniors.
Recruiting Mentors NOW for Victoria Police - Reminder
Rotary Melbourne together with Rotary Central Melbourne and a range of other Victorian Clubs have provided experienced Mentors each year to Victoria Police. The programme has been highly successful. Both mentors and mentees have enjoyed the exchange of experience and insights gained. Mentoring contact is approximately one to two hours per month.
Footy Tipping Wrap-up 2021
Bruce Davidson has done a wonderful job in a very difficult season - keeping up with the AFL fixture for 2021.
Rotary Melbourne signs up to RIMERN
In May, RC Central Melbourne signed on as a foundation member of the multi-club, Centenary of Rotary in Australia Community Service project, RIMERN (Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network).
Guyana Rotary club brings COVID-19 vaccines to remote communities
Members and government health officials use boats to reach villages deep in the rainforest
Members of the Rotary Club of Demerara, Guyana, are using their decades of experience in fighting disease while delivering COVID-19 vaccines and aid to a remote region of the South American country. The Indigenous communities there would not otherwise have access to the vaccine and would remain vulnerable to the virus.

MITS August Newsletter
Ed Tudor, Executive Director of MITS (Melbourne Indigenous Transition School) has shared their latest newsletter here. Their Year 7 and alumni students continue to do themselves and their families proud in spite of the ongoing challenges presented by COVID-19. These remarkable young people are showing extraordinary courage and resilience, working as a team and growing together here in Melbourne.
