Our guest speaker on Wednesday 25 May was Dr. Alan Finkel AC, Australia’s Chief Scientist from 2016-20 and Special Adviser to the Australian Government on Low Emissions Technology, who presented the Rotary Melbourne Young Achiever Awards 2022.

Member News 

New Member - Mohammad Faisal Albarbari (Mike)

Melbourne Rotary welcomed and inducted Mohammad Faisal Albarbari (Mike) into the Club on 18 May 2022. Mike is a Chartered Accountant. His classification is Finance – Accounting. Mike is excited about joining Rotary Melbourne and is looking forward to his participation in the Club activities.    

 

 

Paul Harris Fellow – Russell Board

The presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow Award to Honorary Secretary, Russell Board for his service particularly in 2020-2021 which was a challenging year requiring Russell’s calm and thorough governance oversight.      

 

 

You Don’t Know Me Interview - Dr Chris Sotiropoulos

Rotary Melbourne member, Vaideek Chaudhary, has agreed to interview various members of the Club as part the Communications Committee idea to get to know members of the Club. Vaideek's second candidate is Dr Chris Sotiropoulos.                

 

 

Please Update Our Database

An email was circulated on 24 May asking all Rotary Melbourne members to check their online Members Directory in preparation of the 2022/23 printed Directory. Updates are required by Friday 3 June.  Please ensure you have checked both the hardcopy and online directory and advise any changes including updated photos. Please send your updates to the Directory Editor directory@rotarymelbourne.org.au  Thank you to all of those members who have already responded.

District Changeover - Congratulate our Member Amanda Wendt

Make sure you book for this lunch, on Saturday 23 June, as we congratulate our own Mandi Wendt as she takes the reigns from DG Dale.  Our Club is the host supporting the in coming DG Wendt.  Our first District Governor for some years.

Visiting Rotarian Reg Hutchinson

Visiting Rotarian Reg Hutchinson, Rotary Adelaide, was invited to the podium for the  exchange of Club banners, following which Reg H. presented a historical brass plaque which a member of the public, resident in the Adelaide Hills, had found in the garage.

HOC 2023 News

A contingent of HOC members are jetting to Huston Texas, to join the 2022 RI Convention and promote our convention in May 2023. Travel safe!  Look out for early bird registration opportunities.      

 

 

Rotary Regionalisation Pilot

Many members are concerned that Rotary needs to adapt and evolve to increase its relevance in a changing world.  A major consultation will begin in June about piloting a regional structure in Zone 8 (Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands) will be conducted.      

 

 

RIMERN Breaking News

RIMERN (Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network) is heading for it’s 1st Birthday on 16th June & our big gift will be a van! From getting our warehouse keys until now it’s been a very exciting year!      

 

 

Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children Newsletter May 2022

ROMAC provides surgical treatment for children in Australia and New Zealand from developing countries from our Pacific Region in the form of Life Giving and/or dignity restoring surgery not accessible to them in their home country.
