Meeting Wednesday 25 May 22 Young Achiever Awards 2022 & Dr Alan Finkel

Our guest speaker on Wednesday 25 May was Dr. Alan Finkel AC, Australia’s Chief Scientist from 2016-20 and Special Adviser to the Australian Government on Low Emissions Technology, who presented the Rotary Melbourne Young Achiever Awards 2022.

Meeting 8 June 2022 Phoebe Gardner - the winner of Rotary Melbourne’s Environmental Sustainability Award in 2022

Rotary Melbourne's evening meeting was our second hybrid format held at the Lyceum Club on 8 June.  The guest speakers were Phoebe Gardner - the winner of Rotary Melbourne’s Environmental Sustainability Award in 2022 and Garry Fowler on Carbon Calculator. A great recording of the meeting can be viewed on Rotary Melbourne’s YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toouWzudydk.      

 

 

Meeting 13 July 2022 Cameron Glover, CEO Interplast Australia

Meeting Wednesday 7 September 22 Prof Andrew Pask, Head, Thylacine Integrated Genomic Restoration Research

Last week’s meeting guest speaker was Professor Andrew Pask, Head, Thylacine Integrated Genomic Restoration Research (TIGRR) Lab, University of Melbourne. He gave a very interesting presentation on bringing the extinct Tasmania Tiger back to life.

Last week’s meeting guest speakers were Tim and Samantha Lane, Sports Journalists, Writers, AFL Broadcasters. They gave a very informative and entertaning presentation on 'Footy, Finals and Family'.                             

 

 

Meeting Wednesday 5 October 22 Vocational Service Award Robert Pradolin

The 2022 Rotary Melbourne Vocational Service Award was presented to distinguished Australian Robert Pradolin and recognises his service of property developer and founder of Housing for All Australians, at the Rotary Melbourne meeting on 5 October 22. View recording HERE

At the 26 October meeting the guest speaker was Optimist Victor Perton. Victor kindly stepped in at short notice and we are very grateful.  Victor spoke on ‘The Case for Optimism the impact of Positive Leadership’. You can view the meeting HERE.

Presidents Speech to Rotary Osaka 100th Anniversary 18 Nov 22

Members of Rotary Melbourne have been in Japan this week to celebrate the centenary of our sister club, the Rotary Club of Osaka.     

 

 

Our Newest Paul Harris Fellow - Lord Mayor Sally Capp

At the Rotary Melburne meeting on 23 November 22 we witnessed the presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow Award to Lord Mayor Sally Capp for her commitment to the community and for her support of Rotary projects that improve our city. Congratulations Sally.        

 

 

2022 Seniors Award – Citation

Cathy Roth OAM, National Chairman of PALZ (Professionals with Alzheimer’s and related diseases) was presented with Rotary Melbourne's Seniors Award for 2022 at our meeting last Wednesday 18 May. The Seniors Award is presented to a person who has given outstanding service in a voluntary capacity to older people.

        

 

 

Rotary Give Every Child A Future Newsletter Sept 2022

The attached September newsletter brings you up to date with progress on our Give Every Child a Future (GECAF) project. It’s really exciting to have reached the stage of being nearly fully funded, and seeing extensive activity across the Pacific countries that are benefiting from the immunisation program. Events beyond Rotary's control meant we could not produce a June newsletter but the September edition is a bumper one. Our immunisation program rollouts have gained momentum as COVID-19 restrictions have eased and borders in Pacific countries start to re-open.

 

 

Tonga Project Update

At the Rotary Melbourne meeting on 26 October 22 PP Robert Fisher provided an update on the Rotary Melbourne project, in patnership with RedR, on supporting the humanitarian response following the Tonga volcano eruption in January 2022.      

 

 

Victorian floods. How you can help

District Govenor Amanda Wendt has notified Rotarians that 'in our District many Rotarians have been affected by recent rainfalls, many local members are pitching in and making a hands-on difference.

Environmental Sustainability Commendation Award 2022

At the 2 June 2022 Environmental Sustainability Rotary Melbourne luncheon Claire Moore, Sweet Justice (2021 winner) presented Manon Beauchamp-Tardieu, Little Green Panda with the 2022 Commendation. The winners award was presented on 8 June 2022 to Phoebe Gardner, Co-founder of Bardee.      

 

 

Rotary Melbourne Carbon Social Certificate June 2022

As the end of the World Environment Day event approached, Garry Fowler, Co-chair of the Environment Sustainability Committee came to the podium to accept the Carbon Social Certificate from Andrew Mahar AM, founder of WithOneSeed, an East Timor based social enterprise.      

 

 

Calculating your Club’s carbon footprint

This spring ESRAG Oceania launched a Carbon Calculator for Clubs in Australia and New Zealand to use to calculate their carbon emissions from meetings, events and projects.     

 

 

National Tree Day Plantings

A group of environmentally conscious Rotary Melbourne members and partners gathered for a few hours at Norton's Park in Wantirna on a chilly Sunday morning to volunteer and celebrate National Tree Day.
