Club News    

The Monash Medal is awarded for - Leadership, Integrity and Service - Values of Sir John Monash and of Rotary - to an outstanding Australian who has made a significant contribution to the Australian community and beyond. Nominations are now open.     

The Guest Speaker for the meeting on 22 Feb was Ciaran O'Toole, Conciliation Resources, Director South East Asia/Pacific, speaking on the topic ‘Climate Change and Conflict Risks’. Ciaran’s presentation can be viewed HERE or for the full meeting click HERE.

This SAFE Families initiative is focused on providing prevention of abuse information via printed translated Guides and films, initially, to our African Australian communities.     

The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity is conducting a study of an experimental influenza (flu) vaccine using new mRNA technology and is seeking healthy adults 65 years and older.   

Footy Tipping is an important fund raising initiative of the club. Join the Rotary Melbourne Footing Tipping Competition for 2023. AFL footy commences on Thursday 16 March. Dont forget to get your tips in if you have registered.

Past President Peter Rogers has provided the first update on the PNG Community Piggery Enterprise.     

You may like to read the attached document by the Conciliation Resources report (Ciaran O'Toole) on Peacebuilding opportunities in Hela Province for those who want a better understanding of the unrest in Hela Province. Hela Province is where the Rotary PNG Community Piggery Enterprise (CPE) Project is conducted.

The Rotary Club of Melbourne Young Achievers awards recognise and honour annually up to three outstanding young Victorians with an award and a cheque for $1,500.

Did you know that there is a Rotary Tennis Tournament on prior to the RI Convention organised by our own members Garry Fowler, Stephen Rando and Peter Rogers (22-26 May 23).  All abilities can register for the tournament. There is an opening Yarra River cocktail cruise on 22 May.

Environmental News

Victoria’s single-use plastic ban came into effect on 1 February 2023. The ban was originally announced in early 2021, with the implementation date set from 2023 to provide time for government to engage businesses on finding alternatives.
