The Rotary Melbourne Evening Conversation on Tuesday 11 June 24 was a special expert panel discussion shed light on social license, arguably the most important issue impeding progress in the transition to renewable energy. The Guest Speakers were Professor Sara Bice, Director, Institute for Infrastructure in Society, ANU; Professor Alan Finkel AC, 8th Chief Scientist of Australia, Energy Advisory to the Federal Government; Mary Barry, Founding Director and CEO Women of Wind | CEO Xellence Pathways, CEO CircularEco.

Traditional Gathering of Presidents
It has been a long tradition of Rotary Melbourne that the outgoing President introduces the incoming Rotary Melbourne President, and reviews their year in the company of Past Presidents and partners. On Sunday 16 June 24, out-going President (Chris Sotiropoulos) outlined the achievements of Rotary Melbourne in 2023-24. Incoming President (Catherine Baxter) outlined her plans for the coming year. Here they are at Kingston Heath Golf Club yesterday having a jolly good time. It was a very chilly day but that didn’t dampen the convivial chatter in the room.

Amanda Wendt Celebrating Rotary in District 3770 - Philippines
Recently Amanda Wendt, Rotary Melbourne member, had the privilege of representing Rotary International President Gordon McInally at District 3770’s conference in Baguio City, Philippines.
Dorothy Gilmour incoming President Rotary Hawthorn
Members will be interested to learn that former RCM member and stalwart of the Rotary Safe Families project, Dorothy Gilmour, has been appointed President of Rotary Hawthorn for the coming year.
Volunteering Opportunities at RIMERN (Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network)
As expected in tough economic times, the demand for emergency relief is growing rapidly. RIMERN has been able to increase its activity during the past 12 months. But with increased activity, comes increased need for volunteers.
End Polio Now Afternoon Tea
On Saturday 15 June 24 Mary Barry and PP Robert Fisher attended an afternoon tea in Camberwell for Polio Plus Society members. There were around 50 present to hear PDG Murray Verso provide an encouraging update on the world status of polio. He will be addressing Rotary Melbourne on 23 October along with a polio survivor.

Tangly Ton, President Rotaract Club of Siem Reap, has provided an update on his studies along with details of recent Rotary projects including his excellent results in his last Semester at University.
City of Melbourne - Warm Safe Home
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, was held on Saturday 15 June 24. The City of Melbourne has recently established 'How a crafty tiny home can help reduce elder abuse'. To find out more click HERE.

At a waste depot in Shoalhaven, 200 kilometres south of Sydney, old mattresses, fabric and dirty glass left over from household recycling are being transformed into something completely different: Green Ceramics, a versatile commercial product.
