Member News

Rotary Melbourne welcomed and inducted Getrude (Trudy) Matshe on 27 November 2024 with the classification Social Entrepreneur - Business & Systems Analyst. Trudy is a poet and artist who believes in changing the world one story at a time.       

Rotary Melbourne welcomed and inducted Stephanie (Steph) Hunt on 20 November 2024 with the classification of Law - International Mediation. Steph is an Accredited Mediator, and is a Councillor of the Australian Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.     

The Australian Federal Police and Untapped Dandelion Program has been awarded the Inclusive Communities Award at the recent National Disability Awards. Rotary Melbourne member Carolyn (Cas) Burr, is the Managing Partner at Untapped Talent.

Club News

President Catherine Baxter has shared exciting highlights from her first six months leading the Rotary Club of Melbourne.

Rotary Melbourne's Christmas Appeal recipient in 2024 is Western Chances. Through scholarships, opportunity programs, and ongoing support, we don’t just help young people achieve their goals - we empower them to return to their communities with knowledge, skills, and hope. Please make a special Christmas donation this year.

On Tuesday 10 December 24, Richard Parker, Jan Moffatt, Trevor Nink and Sue Smith picked up car loads of toys from Launch Housing HQ in Collingwood. The donated toys were delivered to their facilities in Dandenong, South Melburne, East St Kilda and St Kilda, bring cheer and happy faces to those less fortunate.     

The Rotary Club of Melbourne Young Achievers awards recognise and honour annually up to three outstanding young Victorians with an award of $1,500 each. Nominations are now open.

On Tuesday 10 December, International Human Rights Day, Past President Ozuem Esiri of Nigeria curated a global Zoom meeting, attended by 80 people from around the world, which featured five speakers, including Rotary Melbourne Past President Robert Fisher.      

23 Melbourne Rotarians and partners participated in a delicious pizza night at Kate & John Saunders house on Thursday 12 December 24.

Other News

The 2024 Carterton Rotary Christmas Parade in New Zealand celebrated “Christmas All Over the World” Kiwi-style, with vibrant floats and community spirit lighting up High Street. A magical day showcasing Rotary’s festive leadership in New Zealand!

In Maryland USA, the Rotary Club of South Anne Arundel County holds its annual Lights of Kindness event, raising over $200,000 in 9 years.  Businesses are paired with local charities to decorate Christmas trees. The trees are displayed at a garden centre during the first weekend of December, and visitors can vote for their favorite tree by donating any amount of money. Each dollar donated is divided equally between the club’s foundation and the charity responsible for the tree, and the three charities that collect the most money earn an additional cash prize.
