Winter Wildfires in Los Angeles – Rotary Response

Shortly after sunset on 7 January 2025, devastating wildfires broke out in Metropolitan Los Angeles and surrounding regions, powered by 160 Km winds.  The explosive winter fires destroyed several densely populated residential areas. Rotary Melbourne is working with the Rotary District 5280 Disaster Relief Fund to help.

Dangan School Rebuilding - Water & Literacy

In rural, mountainous Isabela, Philippines, Dangan Elementary School faces limited access to water, sanitation, and educational resources. Students fetch water daily, and literacy is hampered by a lack of supplies. Rotary Melbourne together with a  Melbourne Primary school is transforming lives by providing clean water, a new library, 380+ books, teaching aids, and sustainable gardens. This project fosters health, education, and resilience, creating a legacy of hope and opportunity for the future.

February is Rotary's Peace & Conflict Resolution Month

As a humanitarian organisation, peace is a cornerstone of Rotary Melbourne's mission. Rotary creates environments where peace can happen. By carrying out service projects including this year's South Sudan Peace Leadership Program, and supporting peace fellowships and scholarships, our members take action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.

Thailand Takes Action on Plastic to Start the Year

As of January 1, 2025, Thailand has ceased importing plastic waste due to concerns about toxic pollution and health risks. The ban, which has been in discussion since 2020, came into effect this month after years of advocacy by environmental activists aiming to prevent the country from becoming a dumping ground for plastic waste.
