Membership in Rotary

It is a rule of Rotary International and the Club that membership is open to adult persons of good character and good business or professional reputation, and engaged or retired as an officer or manager of any worthy and recognized business or profession, or holding any important position in any worthy and recognized business or profession and have executive capacity with discretionary authority; or being a community leader who has demonstrated through personal involvement in community affairs a commitment to service and the Object of Rotary.

As part of our due diligence to assure eligibility and because of expectation that members will be engaged in supervision or management of activities for the welfare of children, youth and vulnerable people it is a pre-condition of admission to membership that the candidate obtain a Working With Children Check card, as a volunteer with Rotary Club of Melbourne Inc.

 

Membership Obligations of Rotary

A member must be engaged in Club activities, which include attendance at regular meetings, and involvement in any activity that is related to Club committees, groups, projects or events, and meetings of any other Rotary Club or participation in any other Rotary International meeting or activity.

Other Obligations:

  • To pay promptly all dues and approved calls for Club projects.
  • To support the Rotary International Foundation Fund.
  • To extend a personal welcome to visiting Rotarians sitting near them or standing alone at the regular weekly Club meetings.
  • To extend fellowship to and generally assist Club Officers, fellow Rotarians and especially newly inducted Members.
  • To practise 'The Rotary 4-Way Test' at all times, "Of the things we think, say or do:
    1. Is it the Truth?
    2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
    3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
    4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?"
  • To wear the Rotary emblem at all times as an insignia of honour.
