Batman Cluster Meeting report

Last Monday (14 November 22) a group of Rotary Melbourne members attended and participated in the Batman Cluster meeting at the Red Emperor Chinese Restaurant Southbank.

FORaMEAL Volunteering

On arrival we were set up in groups by the Rotary Club of Canterbury FORaMEAL team aiming to pack 1,000 meals in an hour. A single FORaMEAL pack provides a displaced family with a nutritious meal for six people. Made up of rice, oats, lentils and a sachet of scientifically formulated vitamins and minerals, it provides nutrition when it is needed most. And it needs nothing more than a pot of boiling water.

A stunning example of the need for food packs was recently illustrated by the shipment of 100,000 FORaMEAL food packs, alongside 6 pallets of medical and surgical supplies provided and packed by the Ukrainian Association of Melbourne and DIK, and, underwear sourced from all over Melbourne to the people of Ukraine, through Poland, by the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

DG Amanda Wendt Update

Over dinner we heard speeches from District Governor (DG) Amanda Wendt. She was delighted with the number of meals packed by the Rotarians present and noted that 5 strangers walking past joined in the production line. This demonstrated the value of hands on projects.

Amanda also announced that Victorian Rotarians will have the opportunity to attend a dinner with International President Jennifer Jones at the Plaza Ballroom (under the Regent Theatre) on Thursday 1 June 2023. Tickets will be available in the middle of January.

Amanda presented special Mentorship awards to a number of people in the Batman Cluster including Rotary Melbourne’s Past President Mary Barry

The DG plans to hold volunteering days monthly. The next one will be held at RIMERN on Saturday 3 December.

Rotary District 9800 is celebrating great examples of the meaningful, hands on, convenient volunteering that will help our clubs connect with more volunteers from across our community.
