Rotary Adelaide Centenary

On 24th August 1923, members of the Rotary Club of Melbourne set up a meeting of prominent South Australians to form the Rotary Club of Adelaide. Past President Adrian Nelson flew to Adelaide last week to celebrate their centenary with them at the iconic Adelaide Oval.

Approximately 270 attended the celebration in the Ian McLachlan Room, including their honorary member Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia. The keynote address was delivered by Past Premier the Revd Lynn Arnold.

Our club was acknowledged for our role in sponsoring Adelaide Rotary. They have since gone on to sponsor over 100 Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Clubs. The lunch was a celebration of many historic projects, including the establishment of Medicalert, Australia's trusted provider of emergency medical information.

Rotary Adelaide also highlighted their two significant centenary projects:

  • 100 Peace Poles for 100 Years of Rotary in SA

  • Building a Chronic Disease Prevention Agenda with Aboriginal People
