Dildar Begum is joint winner of the 2025 Sir John Reid Community Service Award with Rade Pajic. Dildar, a Rohingya refugee, is honoured for her community service, mental health advocacy, and cultural contributions, inspiring resilience and empowerment in Springvale’s refugee community.

As a humanitarian organisation, peace is a cornerstone of Rotary Melbourne's mission. Rotary creates environments where peace can happen. By carrying out service projects including this year's South Sudan Peace Leadership Program, and supporting peace fellowships and scholarships, our members take action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.

In rural, mountainous Isabela, Philippines, Dangan Elementary School faces limited access to water, sanitation, and educational resources. Students fetch water daily, and literacy is hampered by a lack of supplies. Rotary Melbourne together with a Melbourne Primary school is transforming lives by providing clean water, a new library, 380+ books, teaching aids, and sustainable gardens. This project fosters health, education, and resilience, creating a legacy of hope and opportunity for the future.
Salman Mubarak of Rotary Club Multan Cantt in Pakistan empowers polio survivors through cricket, proving disabilities don’t define limits but highlight extraordinary abilities on and off the field.
The new annual Rotary Melbourne Music Scholarship supports talented emerging Victorian musicians under 30 years of age. who need assistance to further their careers or studies in music. Our mission is to nurture the next generation of musical leaders, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities to thrive.
November is Rotary Foundation Month, a shoutout to Rotary International's charitable heart. Creating a better world, one project at a time! From clean water projects in the Philippines to vaccinating kids in the South Pacific, from Peace Bells in Melbourne to building schools in Arnhem Land, and training midwives in Timor Leste to planting trees for the planet. My involvement with DIK started sometime after Timor Leste gained its Independence in 2002 when the West Footscray store had started to ship all manner of supplies to Timor, and they sought some assistance in packing containers. That started my long involvement with Donations in Kind of over 20 years and it is impossible to capture in a few paragraphs the multitude of activities and my involvement but more importantly the great service this project delivers.
