National Tree Day Plantings

Nortons Park Rotary Melbourne Tree Planting

A group of environmentally conscious Rotary Melbourne members and partners gathered for a few hours on Sunday morning (31 July) to volunteer and celebrate National Tree Day by joining a community organised planting of 3,000 seedling trees, shrubs and grasses at the wonderfully rustic and picturesque Nortons Park in Wantirna.

Inspired by the efforts of Planet Ark and supported by local councils and community groups, Nortons Park was just one of hundreds of locations around Victoria where plantings occurred.

The sky was overcast but fortunately no rain and this was a great opportunity for Rotarians to come together in a very worthwhile cause, enjoy the fresh open-air setting and socialise with one another while pursuing the task at hand. It was an occasion for the Club’s newer members to get to know other members and experience of some of the positive voluntary work that Rotarians engage in.

Importantly, it is intended that this will be the beginning of similar future events to be organised by RCM’s Environmental Sustainability committee.

President Adrian produced this video about our experience.
