San Mateo Clean Water for Life

The "San Mateo Clean Water for Life" initiative brings clean drinking water and a dedicated hygiene station to the Jose F. Diaz Memorial National High School in Brgy. Gulod Malaya, San Mateo, Rizal, Philippines. The WASH project is a collaboration between Rotary Melbourne, the Rotary Club of Greater Marikina Valley and the Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS).

A ground breaking ceremony was held in October 2024.

The new facility is designed to serve a community of 1,200 students, 43 teachers, and 14 school staff members. By providing access to safe water and sanitation, the project aims to significantly reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases among students and faculty, addressing a critical public health concern in the region.

Providing fresh drinking water and hygiene stations at the Jose F. Diaz Memorial National High School school offers critical health and educational benefits. It reduces the spread of waterborne diseases, leading to fewer student absences and improved academic performance. Access to proper sanitation promotes good hygiene habits, while hydration supports cognitive function and focus in class. Clean facilities particularly benefit girls, ensuring dignity and attendance during menstruation. Additionally, healthier students create long-term benefits for the community, reducing the public health burden. Overall, it fosters a safer, more inclusive learning environment, contributing to both individual and communal well-being.
