Walk to End Polio 2024

Rotary Melbourne's Past President Robert Fisher is challenging himself to walk 300km during the month of October to raise $5,000 vital funds that will help eradicate and prepare us for a Polio free world.

Poliomyelitis is a disease that should have been made history a long time ago, yet it runs the risk of becoming forgotten about. Polio is crippling and potentially fatal. There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines. The strategy to eradicate Polio is therefore based on preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops and the world is Polio free.

However, a Polio free world does not mean it’s over altogether. It requires updated vaccination policies, appropriate containment of the Polio virus in facilities, and the certification that Polio has indeed been eradicated.

That is why this October we are asking you to support the 'Rotary Walk With Us' campaign by donating so that no child ever again suffers from the devastating effects of Polio. Every $1 that we raise becomes $3 thanks to the generosity of the Gates Foundation.
