Last Saturday, I was proud to attend the closing afternoon of the South Sudanese Diaspora Peace Leadership Program. This three-day workshop was funded by Rotary Melbourne and conducted by the University of Melbourne Initiative for Peace. It drew together 30 emerging South Sudanese community leaders from around Australia.
They not only shared a wide variety of innovative initiatives designed to support social harmony in their communities here in Australia, but they also learned how to promote positive peace in South Sudan. Through the involvement of Rotary Melbourne alongside Rotary Clubs of Central Melbourne and Balwyn, connections have been forged that will enable near nearby Rotarians to provide support and assistance to South Sudanese communities around Australia.
It was inspirational to observe the unity of purpose and confidence created amongst participants and the impressive facilitation skills of Rotary Peace Fellows, Tania Miletic and David Nyol Vincent.
Congratulations to the Welfare of the Young committee for sponsoring this project.
