Bacnotan La Union Water Filtration Project

The Baroro Bacnotan northern Philippine watershed in late 2021 was once fresh clean water, but had turned to toxic polluted water.

The heightened waterborne illnesses in children and women of this toxic water led Melbourne Rotary in conjunction with Rotary District 9800 and Ortigas Center Rotary to provide two Skyhydrant water filtration units to the rural villages of Baroro and Pandan.

The strong partnership included the local government (LGU) providing

  • storage sheds,
  • water source supply,
  • an intake water tank,
  • pipeline,
  • water outlets,
  • with sweat equity labor from the community.

An additional output tank, community roster for maintenance and water tariff collection allowed for further sustainability.
