Calling all generous Rotary members with holiday properties. Can you spare a week or a long weekend in the months ahead to offer your beach or rural house as a prize in our very exciting Around the Bay Silent Auction for the disadvantaged kids of The Smith Family? This could be a week in the upcoming peak summer season, or a week in the off peak season next year? Even a long weekend when you property is vacant at some time ahead? Obviously it depends on the relaxing of isolation rules in the coming months. We can’t let the kids fall too far behind. Please let Kevin Sheehan, Trevor Nink or Kerry Kornhauser know what you can do – it will be greatly appreciated.
We will not be conquered by COVID-19, and the Rotary Melbourne Around the Bay Cycling Team has created a special fundraiser Raffle for 2020 as the cycling event has been cancelled due to COVID-19. We have created a $25,000 target to raise the funds we give annually to the disadvantaged children in The Smith Family's "Learning for Life Program". We shall not let these vulnerable children down, especially this difficult year!
Editor and our Vocational Services Team are very happy to announce that they have created the Young Achiever Awards' Alumni. So far, more than 45 past recipients of our annual YAA have been contacted and 21 awardees have positively responded. Each year, this Rotary Melbourne Award recognizes up to three persons in the age group 18 – 26 who have achieved outstanding success in their education or training and who have also made a significant contribution in the form of service to the community.
Thank you to team PP Chris Wang and Robert Fisher with Rachel Beck, UNICEF for updating us at last week's meeting on our Give Every Child a Future initiative in times of COVID-19.
"Sir John Monash as pictured is in his new location at Monash University near the Robert Blackwood building. He was previously in a temporary location pending completion of the new Chancellery. The Graduates paid for the move." PP Peter Rogers
PP Kevin Sheehan inducted Major Bruce Harmer to Rotary Melbourne. He is seen here online with his wife Carolyn. We look forward to meeting them both when we meet again on the 35th Floor.

For those who attended last week's "Navigating Challenges and Opportunities in Retirement" created by Chanti Bou, Serena Low and our Membership Team, you know how much you enjoyed the event. We welcomed Sarah Macleod Bourke last month when her mother, President Marion Macleod, inducted her to Rotary Melbourne. This was a delightful moment in Rotary Melbourne history - mother daughter memberships!
