Five years in, Rotary's malaria mission in Zambia is delivering results.
What began in 2021 as a $6 million partnership between the Rotary Foundation, the Gates Foundation, and World Vision has grown into one of Rotary's most compelling public health success stories. Over 2,500 community health workers were trained to test and treat malaria closer to people's homes - reaching more than 1.25 million people and achieving a remarkable 94% retention rate among health workers. Community health workers now detect 60% of malaria cases in the target districts - cases that would otherwise have been missed or caught only at a severe stage.
Fighting polio one conversation at a time.
Diana Maria Pirga's Rotary journey began in Romania, when a Rotaract social media post led to a donation and then a career. Today she works as a digital community engagement specialist for UNICEF Pakistan, where her mission is tackling vaccine hesitancy around polio. Most parents vaccinate willingly, but a small group carries real concerns about side effects or the need for repeated doses - and when those concerns go unaddressed, hesitancy can take root.

You may recall the call we made recently for volunteers for a small task at DIK to take lots of children’s shoes out of their packaging before they were sent to schools in Timor as part of the latest consignment of desk and chairs for several new schools being built by Spend it Well. Despite not being rushed with volunteers, a working bee of one (Bob) almost got the task done in the allotted time but there were still many cartons to do before the container was collected.
No cost No waiting ..all it needs now is publicity by you.
Attempted suicide in Australia equates to a full plane crashing every day, injuring 95% of the passengers, (mainly our healthy young women) and killing 5%. 3-5% call crisis lines, but 70-80% hint or warn friends and family. Most people freeze. MessagesHelp.Org is an Australian pilot launched by the Australian Suicide Prevention Foundation with Rotary in Sri Lanka and RC Melbourne.
