The Portable Lucas Sawmill Project, which got its start from bushfire relief funds collected by Rotary clubs at the Camberwell markets and a separate RCM grant of $1,500 was included on The Project on 6 December 2021.

Our guest speaker on Wednesday 16 February was Rotary Melbourne member, Peter Jones AM. Peter delivered an impressive presentation 'Melbourne's Major Events - Rebounding from COVID'.
James Wheeler Davidson joined the Rotary Club of Calgary several months after the May 1914 club charter. He had moved to the rapidly growing*1 frontier city of Calgary, Canada, in 1906 and was a successful businessman following an equally successful earlier career as a journalist and diplomat. (*1Calgary, currently 1.2 million+, had a 1906 population of 11,967, growing to 43,700 in 1911, and 63,300 by 1921).
The Rotary Club of Athinai (Greece) was founded in December of 1928. It is the first Rotary Club of Greece and the Balkans and among the first 100 established Rotary Clubs of Europe. It belongs to 2470 R.I. District. Read more about the Rotary Club of Athenai.
Just over a hundred years ago, JWD was instrumental in founding the first Rotary Clubs in Australia and New Zealand: Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington and Auckland. To celebrate the 2021 centenary, these clubs jointly resolved to mark the event with an international project that would be bigger than any of us could contemplate on our own.

For any network to be successful, it must be of perceived benefit to its participants. With the creation of the Davidson network by the Madras (Chennai) and Bombay (Mumbai) clubs the links have been established. Now we must ensure it has value to the clubs it reaches. The Health and Ageing Committee reports that the pilot project to support the administration of the community Covid activities has been completed. St John Ambulance sought volunteers to screen visitors to medical facilities and a number of Members were prepared to join the program.

Applications for the District 9800 Peace Fellowships for 2022 are now open.
Bruce Davidson, a former Parliamentary Librarian and now involved in the Rotary Melbourne as Group Captain of the Balwyn Group and the Club Archivist. Bruce was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow which is based upon the contribution of individual members and deserving members of the community who practice the Rotary motto - “Service above Self” at last week's meeting on 16 February 2022.
