The inaugural Artificial Intelligence Summit was held jointly by Rotary Melbourne and the Royal Society of Victoria at the Society's beautiful 19th century building in Latrobe Street, featuring global thought leaders.
Expert panellists included Finbar O'Hanlon, Assoc Prof Magdalena Simonis, Dr Dimitrios Salampasis and Aaron Sempf, with a few special guests beamed in from around the world.
"We have been educated for a world that no longer exists."
"I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes."
"Every job will be impacted by AI. Most of that will be more augmentation rather than replacing workers."
We remembered the joint history of the Royal Society and Rotary Melbourne with our inaugural 1921 Club President W.A. Osborne also the 1916 President of the RSV. Later, our 50 year member Ian Ross recalled the connection between the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the RSV, where the College paid for the extension at RSV in exchange to be based there. Dr Leslie Gleadell, a member of all three organisations, and Rotary Melbourne President in 1974 led the inspired strategy.
