Update from the Thailand–Myanmar Border: Empowering Students with Light, Knowledge, and Dignity
Greetings from the Thailand–Myanmar border from Jess & Aviv Palti! Recent weeks have been an inspiring and impactful chapter in our ongoing collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Siem Reap and the Cambodian Rural Students Trust (CRST), under the Rotary Melbourne-supported District International Grant.
A team of 10 passionate Rotaractors from Siem Reap joined Jess & Aviv in delivering a series of educational workshops for Karen students living in remote communities along the border. These sessions included the distribution of Days for Girls reusable menstrual health kits and SolarBuddy study lights - resources that offer dignity and opportunity to students, particularly girls, in challenging conditions.
This project supports young people who often lack reliable electricity and access to basic health education. The menstrual kits help girls manage their health with confidence and continue attending school without interruption, while the solar lights enable all students to study safely and effectively at night.
The initiative is proudly managed by the Rotaract Club of Siem Reap and CRST, with strong backing from Rotary Melbourne and our partners through the District Grant program. A full report, with more detail and reflections, will follow soon.
In the meantime, we’re pleased to share some photos capturing the spirit of the week - a celebration of resilience, education, and the global Rotary family in action.
