FOOTY TIPPING RESULTS & A BIT of SPOT!

RESULTS OF THE 2018 FOOTY TIPPING – TED EXELL

The 2018 Rotary Club of Melbourne Footy Tipping competition has concluded.  It is a fundraiser for the activities of the Club’s Health and Ageing Committee which include the annual Seniors’ Lunch;  the Move Victoria Project; the annual Seniors’ Award;  participation in the End Trachoma Project;  and participation with other clubs in District 9800, in the Australian Rotary Health Mental health Research Project.

The Footy Competition involved 157 Rotarians, families and friends of Rotarians, employees of corporate friends of Rotary and at least three pet dogs!

This year, instead of offering a number of cash prizes, we introduced one major cash prize and a weekly jackpot. The intention of this innovation is to maintain interest for tippers after the leading bunch have skipped away as sometimes happens. The Jackpot Pool of $690 was distributed to 12 winners throughout the course of the season. They were: David Crow, Samantha Read, Ryan Wilkie, Linda Fox, Teah Curwen, Rina Cannizzaro, Mai Thuy Mai, Spencer Bock, Julie Gleeson, Ray Newton, Peter Tinworth, Jack Callinan.

So! Who won the end of year prizes prizes?

Prizes 5th to 10th were Sherrin junior soft touch footballs. These balls are ideal for indoor football and are guaranteed to do only limited damage. They are eagerly sought by our tippers and most find their way into to grandchildrens’ Xmas stockings except the one that went to Russell Dakin where it will be added to Russell’s kennel toys. The winners were: Adele Muir, Russell Dakin, David Doolan, Robert van Dyk, Peter Hammet and Charles McGregor, all Friends of Rotary.

David Doolan a faithful friend of Rotary also won a game day ball for tipping the most winners in the second half of the season. A remarkable 77 winners tipped in rounds 12-23 saw him come from 73rd after Round 11 to 7th overall.

2nd, 3rd,and 4th prizes were won by Rachelle Matheson, a previous winner, David Crow and Linda Holmes, also a previous winner.

The overall winner and champion tipper was PETER DAKIN. Peter, his family and professional colleagues are consistent supporters of the competition. Peter also collected the prize for 6th in the competition on behalf of Russell his faithful Labrador. Peter has also won a $200 - 3Peaks Wilderness Wear voucher.  Congratulations Peter!

The Club thanks all our Rotarians and their families and workmates who participated in the competition and all the Friends of Rotary who generously support the charitable works of the Club.

The Club also acknowledges the most generous support of Phil Endersbee and Wilderness Wear suppliers of outdoor gear;  Evans Dixon, SMSF Managers and Advisors,  who donated the footballs; and staff of corporate participants - Portfolio Management Services and Mogulski.

The Health and Ageing Committee also acknowledges the work of Jo Mavros for her assistance and advice in running the competition.
