"The Health and Ageing Committee held its 16th Seniors’ Lunch on an uncharacteristically grey March day with strong winds coming off Bass Straight. Thankfully there was no rain during our visit.
A 45 seater bus from Victoria Coaches collected the happy band of 27people including the carers from Crown Street Flemington and Ormond Street Kensington. With them were a couple of Mandarin speaking Rotarians, Allan Wang and Charles Qin who were keen to help make the day a success.
Although there was a wind, the temperature was fine and coffee was served on the terrace which offered a magnificent view across Western Port and on to Bass Straight. After meeting their Rotary hosts the folk gradually escaped into the restaurant as the wind strengthened.
At 12 noon lunch was served but just prior, Rotarian Warren Johnson gave a welcome speech which was followed by a heartfelt response from Erica who represented the group. She indicated how much they appreciated the reaching out from Rotary to them and this made the day for all Rotarians present.
A delicious meal was served consisting of Salmon with a tasty fresh salad followed by a strawberry sponge-cake topped with lashings of cream.
People lingered and chatted after the meal, rather than strolling through the property as usually occurs, due to the increasingly unpleasant wind and threatening sky.
At 1.30pm the coach pulled away heading off to Arthur’s seat for a view of Port Phillip before the long drive home. Margaret Ross provided 2 cases of apples from her daughter Belinda’s property nearby, which were distributed as people left the coach.
Max was delighted with the event and said he will certainly be there for next year.
In attendance from the Rotary Club of Melbourne, Keith Callinan with his wife Trudi, Ian Ross with his wife Margaret, Allan Wang, Charles Qin and Warren Johnson with his wife Gillian."
