DR DAVID KRAM

Dr David Kram is an opera and concert conductor, university lecturer, arts manager and pianist/coach with forty-eight years international experience. Dr Kram gained a PhD in musicology from Monash University; he is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Commerce and Manufactures (www.rsa.org.uk), an Associate of the Royal College of Music (London) and a member of Rotary Melbourne.

David will "whizz" through a talk he gave to the Rotary Club of Madras last year. In doing so, he will talk about some of his experiences in Chennai, including entertaining at a millionaire’s residence, alongside an Indian musician colleague.

How do the arts benefit society?  A shining example is the work of the unique Rotary Melbourne Arts Committee, which has organised programs working with Sudanese refugee kids, disabled artists and now the Hush Foundation, creating wellbeing in health environments.

Particularly in these troubled times, we become conscious that “man liveth not by bread alone” and, in order to live rich, fulfilled lives as human beings, or in times of stress and deprivation, the arts in their many manifestations can provide a vital key to ‘more-than-just-survivingness’.
