Preparations for the 100th anniversary birthday are now well under way and the 21st April lunch is a date not to be missed. A Centenary photo will be taken and include all those who attend the lunch so please make sure you’ve booked your place in history. It is also a wonderful opportunity to invite anyone that you might have worked with in recent times so they can also participate in our celebrations on this momentous occasion.
It was so delightful to all get together for the Angus Mitchell Oration and what a fantastic speaker Dr. John Skerrit proved to be. He was superbly introduced by Bob Fels. We had a wonderful line up of dignitaries and DG Philip Archer gave us a lovely message for both our celebrations and reminded us of the celebrations that other clubs and district have planned. We will ensure that we include these in the Bulletin.
RI Past President, Ian Riseley, wife and Past District 9810 Governor Juliet, and Kate Strain.
Our ‘Healing the Hurt’ team made another group visit to bushfire affected regions around Albury / Wodonga and the local communities were very excited about the trauma recovery work they are doing. This continues to gain momentum and add real value to these communities. We continue the good work of Rotary in all the projects of the club.
The launch of the Rotary Centenary book was at Government House in Yarralumla, hosted by the Governor-General David Hurley and Mrs Hurley, on Thursday, 8 May.
I was very proud to represent our club at the book launch and Michael and I met up with their excellencies and a number of Rotary dignitaries, including RI Zone 8 Director, Jessie Harman, RI Past President, Ian Riseley, Past RI Director Noel Trevaskis, and DG Philip Archer. The latter two seen here with Michael and I.
Kevin Sheehan and Lisa also attended. It was a lovely evening, and clear that the work of Rotary is valued by all.
Sadly the next day we heard of the passing of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and I’m sure that activity at Government House would have been feverish following the news.
It is a very busy time for us all as we continue to strive to get a ‘hybrid’ meeting up and running, so that all of our members can feel included in our birthday celebrations.
Have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you at our meetings both virtually and in person.
Until next time – take care and spread kindness. Marion
