Last week's evening meeting 13 April 2022

Our evening meeting returned to in-person format at the Lyceum Club on 13 April.  While not delivered in hybrid format, a great recording of the speaker and proceedings can be viewed on Rotary Melbourne’s YouTube Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIejpsft9w8.

Themed around “The Rythm of Life”, George Giamadakis school friend, Sandy Hood, Soldier, Expedition Leader, Businessman, entertained us and shared insights from his interesting life story.

Starting with competitive rowing, school cadets and drum playing at Caulfield Grammar, a soldier learning and training in the Australian Army’s 3rd Battalion Airborne in parachute jumping, an international peacekeeping contractor in the Middle East and Africa, which included some distressing encounters, security guard and drummer with a popular Irish rock band, and leading trek adventures from the Middle East to Pakistan.

Sandy's rollicking adventures contrasted with his role on return to Australia more recently to take charge of his father’s clothing - tailoring business and returning to his love of the beat and rhythm, training primary aged children as drummers, and returning to the studio to play drums himself.

Sandy pointed to rhythm in everything he did, and reminded us of its importance in living and acting effectively.
