Is the peak of Pico, seen from inside C14 fort turned hotel, where we celebrated Portuguese Mother’s Day on Sunday. We are about to ferry across the 8 kms of strait now- 7:30 am. 

The black end shows the landscape where the 1958 eruption added a couple of square kms of new land to ‘Europe’. Colourful end is the main town, still a busy port for transatlantic sailors.
