In late May all members received an update from the Rotary Zone 8 Regionalisation Pilot Project Team Co-chairs Ingrid Waugh (NZ/Oceania) and Peter Frueh (Australia) advising of a Rotary Regionalisation pilot project. Peter Frueh kindly briefed the Board on this proposal and shared a lot of interesting background on the rationale for the proposal.
Essentially it will see creation of a regional council for Rotary Oceania, as well as District roles transitioning into new, more focused leadership opportunities with two or three-year terms, depending on the role and the requirements of regional support committees.
Rotary and Rotaract clubs will serve in sections together. It is envisaged that all Rotary members can apply for and be elected to any leadership positions in the region. There will be fewer layers of hierarchy.
There is more information available on the dedicated website, www.creatingtomorrowrotary.org along with the opportunity to “Have your Say” and “Subscribe” to updates. There will also be opportunities to volunteer and get involved in work groups.
All clubs in the Zone are entitled to one vote and will be asked to cast their vote on the regionalisation pilot in September. It is important in the meantime for the Board to understand member reactions before voting on the Club’s behalf.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact any member of the Rotary Melbourne Board, or Regionalisation Project team member Christina Boys.
