RID 3220 Sri Lanka Hosts Visiting RIP Jennifer Jones with Pomp & Splendour

By Suresh Marcandan.

Whether in good times or in bad, the tiny island nation of Sri Lanka never fails to disappoint when hosting international events. This is particularly so when it comes to Rotary events, and hence the recent visit of RIP Jennifer Jones on her “Imagine Tour” of Sri Lanka, was no exception.

It was indeed my very great pleasure to have been in Colombo, Sri Lanka to coincide with these events and hence I took the opportunity to promote RC Melbourne and RICON 2023.

RID 3220 hosted an ‘Inter-City Meeting’ on the afternoon of the 14th December, which attracted a record attendance of 500 Rotarians and during which a special commemorative stamp was issued in honour of RIP Jennifer Jones.

A charity gala (black-tie) banquet was held at the Shangri-La Hotel the same evening and an equal number of 500 Rotarians, guests and business leaders attended. The chief guest was Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe (President of Sri Lanka). I was privileged to have had the opportunity to present a RC Melbourne banner to RIP Jennifer Jones.

This is a must-watch: Jennifer Jones describes her experience in Sri Lanka through this 2 min video:
