At last week’s RIMERN field trip/meeting we all pitched in and volunteered for several hours.
After arriving at around 11am we were briefed by PDG Keith Ryall on Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network (RIMERN). This was followed by a guided tour of the facility at 32-34 Lincoln Street, Brunswick East.
Then we were divided into two groups: The ladies were put to work sorting out the cutlery and unpacking recently delivered goods for the home, from sandwich toasters to crockery etc. All the electrical goods that are donated are tested and tag prior to distributing to clients in need. The gentlemen unloaded a truckload of recently donated furniture and homewares.
Feeling collectively a sense of achievement, we stopped for a quick lunch followed by a very brief meeting with President Adrian.
The final activity was to set up a lounge suite for photographing for RIMERN's website and newsletter.
Those that attended had a lot of fun, and now have a better idea of what goes on at RIMERN.
Check out their website www.rimern.org.au for more information.
If you are interested in volunteering they are open from 10am to 3pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays. All help would be very welcome.
