Reflection by Cheryl Lacey 29 March 23

Planning for the future becomes history before our intentions are realized.

However, some plans have the power to transcend time.

They remain as they were, as they are and as they should always be.

In March 1912 the National Rotarian Magazine published the ‘Four Elements of Rotarianism’.

Element #1 Integrity:

‘Sterling’ must not be limited to silver, but to the goods and services offered for sale by a Rotarian.

Discrimination of membership is vital to Rotary success.

Element # 2: Opportunity

The face, name and business of every member is well known to all other members.

Being a Rotarian is a privilege.

Element # 3. Service

Members sharing tips and business advice, making purchases of goods and accessing services, recommending members to others.

Service is unselfish support of fellow members.

And last # Element 4. Success

Rotary ensures business accomplishment for every member every Rotary year with the understanding that equality of accomplishment is not possible.

Rotary and fellowship encourage independence, responsibility and free enterprise.

May the 4 elements of Rotarianism - integrity, opportunity, service, and success transcend time by remaining the plan, the present and the future of this, our great Rotary Club of Melbourne.

For fellowship and a belief in enterprise as service. We give thanks.
