If you didn’t manage to buy the BIG ISSUE last week, Rotary Melbourne will have a few available at the next lunch.
Helping those who experience homelessness- our Rotary District 9800 Governor Amanda and Rotary Melbourne President Adrian were on the streets last Wednesday (29 March 23) for The Big Issue Australia’s Big Sell. Vendors like Lionel have been impacted first by COVID and second by the reduction of office workers in the city.
PP Mary Barry was sure Rotary Melbourne members are all familiar with the Big Issue Magazine, designed as an opportunity for those who are homeless to become more self reliant by selling the magazine on the streets of Melbourne. This is also a program the RCM has had a long association with.
We have been presented with an opportunity to rekindle this association via, James Pullar a former RCM member, and strong advocate for the homeless by participating in the BIG ISSUE - BIG SELL project to raise funds to assist the Big Issue vendors who are still recovering for a tough few years due to COVID.
This meant DG Amanda Wendt and President Adrian Nelson had the opportunity to sell the Big Issue on the streets on Wed 29thMarch to raise awareness of the current homelessness crisis in our city and to assist the current vendors. Location to be advised.
The Club is contributing $1000 via the MAHAH project with other Community Welfare Committee making personal contributions over and above the $1000.
