Today is a special day in Rotary Melbourne’s calendar.
Our Rotary International President Jennifer Jones theme for the year is “Imagine”.
Thomas Baker was our Club President in 1928/29.
He is noted in the records of Museum Victoria as a scientist, as an entrepreneur and as a Philanthropist.
All three are given life through imagination.
I am sure that Thomas Baker epitomised the Imagine theme in his industry and philanthropy.
That imagination has given life to the wonderful Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute.
As we recognise Thomas Bakers service through today’s oration, can we imagine the opportunities for us to do some good through Rotary – goodness knows there are plenty of opportunities!
Interestingly 155 years ago today – on 19th April 1868 Paul Harris was born. So, we celebrate his birthday today as well.
