Ruth Martinez has provided a report on the MAGSIKAP Water Sanitation with Health Care and Livelihood in the Philippines.
A land devastated by disasters and restricted access to basic clean water is a daunting choice of a project. Not to Rotarians of Greater Marikina Valley D3800 who dared to IMAGINE and with significant operational support from Rotary Melbourne provided clean water to the 1,900 communit in the northeast province of Magsikap Quezon. The original scope of a spring water development at the foothills of the Sierra Madre with a pipeline traversing the Sumanga River to provide access to clean water to the community of Magsikap had a positive change of course.
The water pipeline distribution also provided clean water to Magsikap Elementary School, the Magsikap Health Center, Barangay village office and spring water piped to 45 homes and 4 cluster water stations. An added boost was the livelihood crop propagation. Sanitation hygiene training were provided and coupled with strong community and local authorities participation will assure long term sustainability.
