A hands-on volunteering opportunity
Our District Governor Amanda Wendt has initiated a major project – “The Big Difference” – to coincide with the beginning of the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne. It is being held on Saturday 27 May from 10.00am – 4.00pm at Fed Square, although the set-up team will arrive much earlier.
For some while, Rotary Canterbury has been sourcing and organising the packing of dry food for emergency relief meals. To date over 500,000 meals have been distributed around Victoria, and to overseas destinations such as and the Philippines. Recently a team from Rotary Melbourne packed 12,500 meals at RMIT in 1.5 hours.
Rotary Melbourne has three registered Supervisors for The Big Difference: Yidan Xi, Berat Kaya and Manoel Felipe Marques. You can do one of three things:
Please go to this website to register for any of the above opportunities:https://wayvolunteer.org/.
DG Amanda hopes to attract 1,000 members of the public to volunteer on the day, with a goal of having 100,000 meals packed by the end of the event. It would be wonderful if we gave this worthwhile venture our solid support. All the meals packed will be going to people affected by disasters in Ukraine, Tűrkiye and Syria.
Thank you for considering participation in The Big Difference. Let me know please if you’re able to help (arranden@bigpond.net.au).
