Awardees 2023

Sebastian Antoine

Community Service Leadership

Sebastian is currently studying Masters of Social Anthropology at University of Oxford. Before his admission into Oxford, he completed his Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Anthropology from University of Melbourne.

He has a proven track record of success in research, policy development, and advocacy, and is passionate about using his skills to make a positive impact in the world.

He has received numerous awards and scholarships during this period. In 2014 he received Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Award at Braemar College and in 2017, he received Melbourne Global Scholars Award from The University of Melbourne. In 2017, he also managed to receive a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, to support intensive studies in Indonesia. In 2019, as part of Youth Affair Council of Victoria, he successfully advocated Victorian Mental Health related funds unlocking $100 million funding for Youth Affair Council of Victoria members. In 2022 he also served as a board member for Central Ranges Local Learning and Employment Network, who assisted young people to stay in school and education programs.

 

Sarah Hanoona

Community Service

Sarah is currently studying Bachelor of Psychology at Latrobe University. She arrived in Australia 3 years ago as a refugee from Iraq. Despite her young age and limited English skills in Australia, she has attained outstanding academic, community and vocational achievements. She is now fluent in four languages and has received a number of different awards, including the Career Education Pathways Award, the Hume City Council Young Advocacy Leader Award, and the Waves of Wellness Certificate. She is also a member of the Victorian Youth Parliament and a Youth Advisor at the Brotherhood of St. Laurence.

She is also involved in a number of community organisations. She is a natural leader and has a gift for connecting with people from all walks of life. She is passionate about social justice and is committed to using her skills and talents to make the world a better place.
