Reflection Ross Scholes-Robertson 21 June 2023

THE PURPLE HOUSE

We have just been to see our son Neil and daughter-in-law Nicki at Alice Springs. Nicki is now attached to Flinders University looking for better solutions to kidney problems, and Neil, an Accountant, is now involved with The Purple House which, he told me, works to help Aboriginal people with kidney disease by providing dialysis machines and local premises to house the machines plus nurses.

You probably all know that when a person's kidneys stop working they require haemodialysis treatment three times a week indefinitely. Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory are badly affected with the disease.

Purple House runs 18 remote dialysis units enabling people to get back to their own territory and family rather than be isolated for treatment in the main cities. It also offers Aboriginals respite and support when dialysis and medical treatment is necessary in Alice Springs or Darwin.

The members of WODEN ROTARY CLUB have given practical and financial help to The Purple House at Kintore, Warburton W.A. and most recently, Kiwirrkurra NT. I will send Neil's epistle about The Purple House to our Club Secretary so our Club and interested members can consider giving support to this good work being done to help Aboriginals.

Today we give special thanks for all of the wonderful work this Rotary year by our own Office Bearers, epitomised by the words "Service above Self " as always, we give thanks for good food and the friendship we share with our fellow Rotarians.
