Last week my wife and I spent an hour and a half on the balcony of our beachside accommodation watching a pod of 4 whales playing with repeated breaches and tail slamming! It caused me to reflect on decisions made decades ago. I was born at a time when Australia was still hunting whales not running an industry around whale watching. In the 1980’s the Australian government sought to challenge whale hunting by other nations, we had ceased whaling by then. It was being done for it’s own sake. I don’t think people were dreaming of a whale watching sector.
We won’t know the results of many decisions made today until decades later. I do know that some decisions that Rotary made some time ago, like the unfinished “end polio” campaign will have generations of people benefiting. I’d like to think that we make some wise decisions now which will pay dividends into the future. And of course for good food and your fellowship we can be grateful.
Thank you Philip Cornish.
