Last Friday morning 16 Feb 24, with a special invitation from SBS Somalia Producer Hassan Jama, Dorothy Gilmour (Rotary Hawthorn) along with Ahmed Tohow and Peter Berg both Rotary Melbourne members were given the opportunity to talk about Rotary SAFE Families Inclusive Communities Initiative with CALD communities[1] (a partnership between Rotary Melbourne and Rotary Hawthorn) for the Somalian radio/podcast program on SBS.
Ahmed is a Leader in the Australian Somali community and arranged the interview with Hassan.
We were able to convey our mission to support and inform CALD Community Leaders of their role in the prevention of family abuse whilst maintaining the family unit.
The concept of giving Men a Choice and Women a Voice was very well received by the program manager.
Another of our Inclusive Communities’ team, Shakilah Wesonga, is this week presenting our project in Swahili on SBS Swahili radio.
We are delighted to be invited to present and receive fantastic wide reach throughout Australia via SBS. We used this opportunity to invite Australian Somalian groups to reach out so we can provide the free Workshop and printed resources for use within their communities. This complements our efforts using the same resources to reach out to take Rotary SAFE Families to other CALD community leaders.
Family abuse can be difficult to talk about, but let’s talk about it anyway as prevention can begin with all of us.
Thank you Rotary Melbourne for your support.
