Once fresh clean water, then to toxic polluted water aptly describe the Baroro Bacnotan northern Philippine watershed in late 2021. The heightened waterborne illnesses in children and women led Melbourne Rotary with D9800 Ortigas Center Rotary to provide two Skyhydrant water filtration units to the rural villages of Baroro and Pandan.
Strong partnership included the local government (LGU) providing storage sheds, water source supply, intake water tank, pipeline, water outlets, with sweat equity labor from the community. An additional output tank, community roster for maintenance and water tariff collection allowed for further sustainability. Photo shows community queue for filtered water.
