Synopsis

Australia is one of the wealthiest nations on earth, with giving as a percentage of GDP at .81 per cent, Australia lags behind comparable nations, including New Zealand at 1.84 per cent, and 2.1 per cent in the United States. We know that philanthropy contributes to a better society and can provide flexible and innovative funding where government often can’t. The need to grow philanthropy and foster a culture of giving is therefore critical to the survival of the for-purpose sector, which provides important support and services to communities. As we embark on the greatest wealth transfer in history, there is enormous scope to increase giving and encourage Australians to give more meaning and purpose to their wealth through philanthropy.
