Special appeal for cloth carry-bags

Lili Teichman (Lili Teichman - Action from the Heart | District 9800 (rotarydistrict9800.org.au), Past President of Rotary Glen Eira, has been leading the Nourish Program since 2020, providing meals to people who are struggling and experiencing homelessness.

Since COVID, Nourish has focused on distributing food in meal packs to clients instead of its earlier buffet-style evening meal. Clients include those struggling in the St Kilda area, and women who are housed in a refuge.

Meals are cooked and packs prepared from a commercial kitchen in Alma Road from where, every Monday, around 70-75 meal packs are distributed. These include hot meals, breads, rolls, pastries, cakes, salads, vegetable slices, desserts, drinks, treats and fresh fruit – enough to last for a few days.

For some time now Nourish has been fortunate to receive donated cloth bags from DIK which are used for the meal packs. Unfortunately, the supply of these bags has come to an end and Lili is reaching out to the members of the Rotary Melbourne to ask if there are any connections to businesses which use cloth bags that could be donated to Nourish for its meal packs. It doesn’t matter if they are branded. To give you an idea, around 75 bags are used per week. Paper bags have been found to be not strong enough to hold the assorted items as listed above.

Lili and Nourish would be so grateful if any members of Rotary Melbourne could assist with donations of these cloth carry bags.
