Amanda Wendt Celebrating Rotary in District 3770 - Philippines

Recently Amanda Wendt, Rotary Melbourne member, had the privilege of representing Rotary International President Gordon McInally at District 3770’s conference in Baguio City, Philippines.

Wow, what a week we had celebrating District Governor Rudy Enriquez and the amazing Rotarians of District 3770! It was a whirlwind of inspiration, fun, and heartfelt moments that left us all buzzing with excitement and a shared commitment to Rotary’s mission.

From the moment we landed, the hospitality was incredible. Filipinos really do know how to make you feel welcome. Governor Rudy Enriquez and our fantastic aides, PDG Maria Nonette O. Tiam and husband Chris, truly set the tone with such a warm welcome.

It was a true honour and privilege to hear impactful stories around mental health education and awareness, water hygiene and sanitation projects, human milk bank, end polio fundraising efforts and membership, consistent annual growth including 700 strong Rotaractors! Care and concern of members, friendship and diversity were key themes but the big one undoubtedly was FUN! So much dancing—it was like a giant Rotary party. Greg and I definitely learnt some new moves. That camaraderie is what makes Rotary so special.

We were also fortunate to visit two of the District’s hands-on projects. The Water Saves Lives project by RC San Jose Golden Harvest. Incredible! They're using solar power to provide clean water and to educate kids on hygiene—talk about making a real difference in their community. Rotary Melbourne member Ruth Martinez even sent a message mid-tour letting us know our club has partnered with D3770 on water hygiene projects in the past.

And let's not forget the Rotary Eco Farm—11 hectares of community goodness! From cashew trees to livestock and an epic tree-house, It's amazing to see Rotary supporting sustainable agriculture and community development.

If the club is wanting to support more international projects in the Philippines, District 3770 is looking to expand their impact and would love to partner with us, especially on their Water Saves Lives initiative with plans already in place to install even more stations in other communities.

As we headed back home to Australia, we took more than just memories. We returned inspired and with hearts full by being part of the true spirit of Rotary and what can be achieved when we come together.

Here's to District 3770 and all the Rotarians who continue to change lives and spread hope around the world.
