Volunteering Opportunities at RIMERN (Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network)

As expected in tough economic times, the demand for emergency relief is growing rapidly. RIMERN has been able to increase its activity during the past 12 months. But with increased activity, comes increased need for volunteers.

We are in need of able-bodied people to extend our service. Volunteering opportunities abound. We are seeking:

  • An on-going person to manage IT. (Google based emails and documents, and wordpress webpage) – home based
  • Volunteer coordinator – home and warehouse based
  • General warehouse volunteers – regular commitment preferred – doesn’t have to be weekly. Can be fortnightly or monthly - warehouse
  • More volunteers for Saturday collection team – particularly people to go out on our truck to collect goods - warehouse
  • Person to train in testing and tagging electrical goods. Can do this in own time, warehouse doesn’t have to be open – warehouse
  • Interface person between RIMERN and DIK.

The RIMERN warehouse is located in Brunswick East. It is open from 10am – 3pm Tuesday-Thursday. It houses household goods suitable for people moving into first-time accommodation provided by an agency. We generally stock smaller items. The Saturday program is for pick-up from homes in our truck and delivery and storage in the warehouse. The hours of operation are 10.30am-1.30pm.

This Rotary Program is part of the circular economy, and we welcome donations of furniture and electrical goods, and financial gifts too. Further information available on our website: www.rimern.org.au
