Bob Fels: Honorary Membership

The Rotary Club of Melbourne has great pleasure in conferring Honorary Life Membership on Robert Miller Fels, Bob as we know him.

Bob was inducted into the Rotary Club of Melbourne on 7 August 1985 with the classification University Colleges – International.  Bob had a long and influential wardenship from 1982-97 at International House of Melbourne University.

Bob is highly respected, and well known, within the Club, District and Rotary International for his work in support of the Rotary Foundation, and the programs of Rotary International in particular in the area of Peace.

For his Contribution at the International level to the Rotary Peace and Conflict Resolution Program including two three year terms on the International Peace Centers Committee and for mentoring of 41 successful Peace Fellow candidates from D9800, Bob has twice been named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Melbourne and a grateful District has recognised him in every way they can.  Three times a District Service Award, a Citation for Meritorious Service and the highest honour of The Rotary Foundation a Distinguished Service Award.  In 2020 the Inaugural Bob Fels District 9800 Peace Award was struck.

Bob’s impact on the Peace and Conflict program from its inception in 2001 through to 2023 ensured District 9800’s unbroken success of nominating candidates, unmatched in the Rotary world.

And we quote of US President Jimmy Carter as you did Bob……………..

Peace is more than just the absence of war.

People everywhere seek an inner peace that comes from the right to voice their views, choose their leaders, feed their families, and raise healthy children.

That is what we Rotarians strive for.

On behalf of Rotarians worldwide, Peace Fellows everywhere, and our Club’s sincere appreciation for your outstanding contribution, in making a difference we are honoured to offer you life membership of Rotary Melbourne.
